“The clouds are accumulating over the country. There cannot be any further delay,” said from Istanbul Stavros Theodorakis, the leader of Potami, when asked to comment on the need for a deal.
The full statement is as follows:
"The clouds are accumulating over our country. We heard the latest statements by the Albanian Prime Minister. There is renewed turmoil in FYROM. There are also small clouds in our relations with Turkey. Things that we assumed settled are being remembered. Therefore, it is a national strategic need – not only a financial one – to conclude negotiations with our European partners. We cannot waste any more time. The country cannot bear it, Hellenism cannot afford it.
I think that the government – in fact the Prime Minister – must make a courageous move and end this Chinese water torture that Greeks are suffering. I heard that the government is planning to enforce party discipline in order to pass the agreement through Parliament. I find it a negative signal, even humiliating for a government, to need to enforce party discipline in order to decide that we must remain in the center of Europe and reach a deal with our fellow-Europeans. I was hoping that these issues would have been resolved by now. The conflict scenario is a third-world option. Therefore, the government majority, without any need for party discipline, should align with the country’s effort, the Prime Minister’s effort, to continue on the European path
