Stavros Theodorakis: The political leaders that believe in Democracy and Europe must join forces

Stavros Theodorakis, the leader of Potami, urged the leaders of all Greek political parties that believe in Democracy and Europe to join forces and hold a meeting before Monday, when the extraordinary European Summit will take place. Asked by journalists what must be the Prime Minister’s stance at Monday’s Summit, Mr. Theodorakis reiterated the need to conclude a deal for growth and social justice.

This is the statement of Stavros Theodorakis:

I think that Greeks are asking themselves one single thing today. What does the Prime Minister intend to do at Monday’s Summit. Will he listen to the voices of those in Syntagma Square chanting for bankruptcy? Will he listen to the voices demanding return to the drachma? Or will he listen to the Ministers spreading horror scenarios in the Greek society, the advocates of statism who claim that the allies of Greece are not in Europe, but in Iran, Russia and Venezuela? I think that there should be a meeting of political leaders, the ones who believe in Democracy and Europe. I think that this will really help Alexis Tsipras; it will boost Europe’s voice, it will boost the probabilities of a good deal and will help Alexis Tsipras to be ready for the Summit that will take place on Monday. We live in Europe and we want a deal for growth and social justice.

Asked to comment on yesterday’s protests in the center of Athens, the leader of Potami said:

Yesterday’s protest, despite concerns regarding weather conditions, was a message to those that confuse the moderation of the supporters of Europe with defeatism. The Greeks have already proven that they will not sit back and watch if their future is threatened.
