In his visit to Chania, Crete, the leader of Potami Stavros Theodorakis, commented on the latest developments and the stance of the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during the negotiations with our partners. Mr Theodorakis stated:
“I understand SYRIZA’s reasons for not drawing a distinction amongst its opposition and presenting them as if they were a single block. However, Potami was created in order to clash with the outworn political system, not embrace it. It takes major reforms, not bargains or coalitions, for the country to move ahead. Becoming a lifeline of those who led the country to its current dire situation is not something that Potami will accept”.
Mr Theodorakis added: “Our decision is unanimous. We support the European course of our country. We will vote for an agreement that will keep us in Europe, and then we will fight for reforms and changes”.
Asked to comment on the internal conflict of SYRIZA, Mr Theodorakis stated: “The ones evoking conflict, default, bankruptcy and the return to drachma, they are all dangerous. These four concepts are interdependent. They will cause a domino effect that will lead to the collapse of society. I am not sure whether they serve special interests or whether they are simply naïve. In any case, one thing is clear. They are playing with fire and they will end up isolated”.
