Martin Schulz expressed his optimism to Stavros Theodorakis on the implementation of the agreement, which necessitates the close cooperation of Greece and Turkey, NATO, U.N., as well the coordination of Greek authorities.

Leader of To Potami Stavros Theodorakis and the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz had a phone conversation.

The two officials talked about the agreement concluded by European leaders, following marathon deliberations.

Martin Schulz expressed his optimism to Stavros Theodorakis on the implementation of the agreement, which necessitates the close cooperation of Greece and Turkey, NATO, U.N., as well the coordination of Greek authorities.

Stavros Theodorakis pointed out that, from day one, To Potami stressed that the refugee crisis cannot be dealt with, unless our country cooperates with its partners in Europe and, of course, Turkey. “From spring 2015, we had tried to convince the government of SYRIZANEL to overcome their problems and obsessions and cooperate, » stated Stavros Theodorakis.

Mr Theodorakis explained to Mr Schulz that when the meeting of political leaders took place, To Potami pointed out the need to limit the flows from Turkey to Europe, the need for NATO patrols in the Aegean Sea and cooperation between the Greek and the Turkish coast guard authorities, in compliance with international and European law.

The two officials pledged to meet and talk to each other soon, given that, as it has been highlighted by Stavros Theodorakis, the country’s problems do not end with the refugee crisis.
