Stavros Theodorakis met with the leaders of the German Greens, who are among the most passionate supporters of the European path of Greece. They stated that they will defend Greece in the next meeting of the Bundestag. However, they expressed alarm over the voices of populism in Greece and Germany, who generate hostility between the two peoples, and who strengthen nationalism in all of Europe.
Stavros Theodorakis stated « after right wing populism, we also got to meet, in the past few years, left wing populism. It seems that some people in Greece like this xenophobic rhetoric, which certainly does not help to build a better Europe. This xenophobia only helps the plans of Schauble and of those that want to expel Greece from Europe".
“There is a conflict between politicians, but not a conflict between peoples,” added Stavros Theodorakis. “We need your help so that it is heard in the German Parliament that there are progressive forces in Greece that want to change Europe, to build a new, more just European family, with more protection for the weak. We are establishing alliances with other progressive, European forces, alliances built on trust, not seeing each other as enemies”.
The German Greens were represented by Cem ÖZDEMIR, Simone PETER and Reinhard BÜTIKOFER.
