The Parliamentary Group and the entire Movement will do everything within their power in 2016, in order to deal with the major issues that keep our society kneeled. But, our own effort is not enough. We call all progressive citizens, all progressive forces to fight so that our country can witness again days of prosperity and pride.
I wish that 2016 will be a better year, in terms of health and prosperity, for you, as your collectivities. I wish you all the best in your family, your work, your school, your friends and mostly in your country.
I want to wish a more harmonic world, especially in our part of the planet, I want to wish peace and, finally, the end of violence.
Wishes may warm up our souls, but they are not enough. We need to act, in order to change things. Magicians’ hats no longer produce rabbits. They have run out of those. We come across the unbelievable harshness of denial every single day.
In To Potami, we think that this is the most crucial moment for our own existence. This moment will show whether we can justify our presence in the political landscape. This moment will prove that we were right, when we made the decision to join our forces and create this Movement. To Potami was created for this hard moment. For the most crucial moment, when everything seems like a dead-end, when free promises have collapsed.
We are determined to take this effort to the very end, for the recovery and the social cohesion of our country. We urge the political and social forces to mobilize and join their forces on a real plan that will get the country out of the crisis.
Let’s launch the Renaissance of our country. Let’s set specific targets for 2016 and achieve them.
This county needs motivation for the creation of new job positions every single month. This country needs to cut down on its useless and extravagant expenditures every single month. This country needs a new social insurance system that will care about the youth and the world of production.
We need to spend more money on Research and Education. We need to impose, in cooperation with other Northern countries, a common European policy on refugees, without any marginalized countries, or any “warehouse” countries. We need a new electoral system, a more proportional and representative one and changes in the Constitution, in order to bring our political system closer to the citizen. We must stand by the leaders of Cyprus on the solution to the Cyprus problem, under the conditions selected by Cypriots themselves.
Our Movement has presented specific proposals on the seven direct priorities of 2016. We will keep on specifying and adjusting these proposals to the constantly changing reality.
