Mr Theodorakis has been invited by leader of Ciudadanos Albert Rivera to Spain. Exit polls predicted 15% for Rivera’s Ciudadanos, 28% for People’s Party, 21% for the Socialists and 20% for Podemos. Mr Theodorakis forecast that the day after in Spain would be a hard one, as the step for the change of the political system in the country has not been completed.
The ongoing crisis in Europe is compressing the old political parties. But, who is to win? Populism or reforms? These are the main questions, according to Stavros Theodorakis, who had an interview yesterday, commenting on the outcome of Spanish elections. Mr Theodorakis pointed out that it is very important that Ciudadanos managed to raise last winter’s 3% to 15%. Yet, the political party did not succeed in outplacing the old and populist forces. He also presented the basic axes of Albert Rivera’s political proposal, as it has been expressed in his last pre-electoral meeting that took place in Madrid. Ciudadanos’ political priorities are similar to the ones set by To Potami.
The first target set by Ciudadanos is the clash with corruption and the political party state. Old political parties, Rajoy today and Socialists before him – are to blame for the corruption distressing the Spanish society. The second target is achieving economic growth, tackling unemployment and reducing taxation, especially for low-incomers. The third target is the total reform of education, so that children all over the country, of any income, may access quality education.
Mr Theodorakis, along with Odine Linardatou, International Relations and Media Director, attended the pre-electoral event organized by Ciudadanos. Spanish media have pointed out the similarities between Ciudadanos and To Potami. Mr Theodorakis acknowledges the common fundamental principles of the two movements; realism, reforms, creating new job positions, support of the weaker, clash with corruption and the political party state.
In an interview that he had with Mega TV channel, Mr Theodorakis stressed that all political parties reassured Spanish citizens that the crisis in Spain will not be handled, using the Greek SYRIZANEL method.
