Stavros Theodorakis: Let me point out that the risk for the country still exists. From what we know - and we know enough about what is going on in Europe right now – the talk about the dark scenario has abated, but it has not gone away yet. And, this is why we need a clear statement from each of the players in the current political system. Those 251 votes in favor of the deal were a good start for the country. The benefits from this unprecedented consensus must not go to waste. I repeat, we need a clear statement from all political parties in order to appease the obvious anxiety of the Greek people.
Potami takes the first step by submitting seven specific proposals:
- There must not be a new round of elections, until stability is restored in the country.
- The President of the Parliament must be replaced, as no one in Parliament trusts her anymore. The choice of her replacement must be made by consensus.
- The government must put an end to unilateral actions that do not comply with the spirit of the deal that was reached last week.
- The government must issue a roadmap for the governmental and parliamentary actions planned through October. Citizens and political parties must not be surprised by any developments.
- We must shed light on Plan B, the plan to return to the drachma, which was elaborated by certain members of Parliament.
- An action plan must be set up, immediately in August, to support small and medium-size entrepreneurship and exports.
- We must talk honestly and openly about a new electoral system, including the abolition of the irrational and anti-democratic bonus of 50 seats for the first political party.
Potami says “No more Memorandums without major changes and without reforms”.
