Theodorakis: "A new deal for a new start. This is the kind of revolution that we need"

We need a deal of trust. This is the only way a progressive revolution can actually take place. We are to get rid of populists, the regressive ones and looters. We need to cooperate. We must eliminate injustice. We must share the burden, in a fair way. So that there can be opportunities. Let’s turn anger into creation. Let’s dispel uncertainty, so that we can bring our children back. Maybe now that the voices of populism lost their impetus and got ridiculed, it is time for us to state again our answers. The answers of logic

“There are two roads for the country. There is the road of Memorandums. The Memorandum of George, Antonis, Alexis. The supplementary Memorandum of Alexis. And possibly another one of Kyriakos, tomorrow. I guess that this is the “solution” that we experience, this is the drama we live! The alternative solution is much harder. An alternative option would be a political, financial, social and cultural agreement, a deal to change everything, without knocking the country down,” stated leader of Potami Stavros Theodorakis, addressing the audience of the Major Meeting of Representatives (MESIA).

The leader of to Potami set two ultimate priorities; increase in job positions and cuts in taxes. He then submitted his proposal on a new deal, a new start, saying “Now that the country is sinking in a dead-end, it takes a major social deal, which needs to be backed and defended by the creative forces of the country. A new deal for a new start. This is the kind of revolution that we need”. He, then, added, “This new deal must also include a deal with our European partners, as Europe is not always right about everything. I am trying to find an important and independent economist to reassure me that this programme, elaborated by SYRIZA and ANEL, will work. But, I cannot find one. They are settling pending issues, yet there is not prospect of growth. There must be, by the European side, measures to tackle unemployment, mainly youth unemployment. Europe must also invest in infrastructure projects”.

Asked to explain who will be materialize this plan, Mr Theodorakis said “In no case, will this plan be materialized by the unskilled political party employees governing us at the moment. We have recently heard that Mr Tsipras’ strategy was inspired by the script of a worthless cop movie. You all heard what Mr Varoufakis said: “We were threatening them that we would exit the euro zone, behind closed doors. We were, in fact, threatening them with our own death. Well, in fact, we were threatening them that we would kill ourselves. But, our funeral would cost them a lot”. So, this is what our country needs; a determined group of capable, independent and knowledgeable people. This group cannot be a gathering of former ministers. Yes, we do need experience, but we also need new blood”.

Referring to SYRIZA and the fact that it has served as continuation of the old political system, he said: “It took only took some months of SYRIZA governance to prove that the left king is just as naked. The political party state had been building, for decades, without permits. Now, SYRIZA is doing the same”. He then added, “SYRIZA has been sweetened by power. They have been urbanized and they now claim permanence. They are struggling to maintain their big state, they are hostile towards private initiatives, profit and entrepreneurship. They fight excellence and meritocracy”. Mr Theodorakis concluded, “Yet, illusion mainly consists of deception”.

Referring the need for implementing reforms for the sake of the entire society, he said, “We do not need fake reforms, serving trade unions and interests. We have had many of those so far. Yet, SYRIZANEL and reforms are not compatible terms. Right and reforms are also not compatible terms. Socialist populism and reforms are incompatible terms, because reforms and political party state do not match”.

Mr Theodorakis concluded, “We need a deal of trust. The answers of logic”.
