«We need to find a way to lead the Greek economy to growth. In this direction, we have submitted specific proposals» stated Stavros Theodorakis, from Brussels, following his meeting with European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici. The leader of Potami stated that we can still cut down on expenditures and excessive spending in the public sector, so that we can save money without imposing further taxes.
Stavros Theodorakis told European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici that Potami and, in his opinion, the majority of the Hellenic Parliament will support a deal signed by the government and our European partners. At the same time, Mr Moscovici insisted on the need to conclude a deal today.

“This was a meeting in a very crucial moment, a very difficult day. Mr Moscovici reiterated the need to reach a deal today. He unequivocally insisted on this need. He said that he wants and that there should be a deal for Greece today. He asked us whether there will be a European majority in the country. I reassured him that Potami has committed itself to support a deal, and I also told him that, I think, that the majority of the Hellenic Parliament will support a deal signed by the government and our European partners. He also wanted to know the stance of the Greek society. I told him that what the Greek society really wants right now is for this torture to come to an end and the beginning of an era, without the of uncertainty that we experience today.
I also talked to him about some of our objections, in Potami, about this deal. We told him that the deals coming from Europe must not include just taxes, and then more and more taxes. We must find a way to lead the Greek society and economy to growth. In this direction, we outlined to Mr. Moscovici a series of specific proposals that we have submitted, as we can still cut down on expenditures and excessive spending in the public sector, so that we can save money withour imposing further taxes.
Mr Moscovici listened to us carefully and told us that we need to discuss this, after the conclusion of a deal. He also told us that, in the following months, Greece will be given the chance, if the country wants to do so, to submit further proposals improving some of the clauses that are being discussed today with our partners”.
